Brussel Sprout Beauty....

Fruit and vegetables have always been a theme in my Christmas decorating.  Each year I decorate the mantel with pineapples, oranges, apples, artichokes and grapes along with cedar and pine roping.  This year I'm adding these beauties.

I'm curious if anyone else likes to decorate for the holidays with fruit and vegetables.  If you do, which fruit and vegetables do you prefer and how do you use them?

  1. It's a great idea. I wish I was that creative. The closest I come to decorating with fruits or vegetables is adding cranberries to the ice cubes.

  3. That's such a genius idea. I don't use fruit or veg but I do have a glorious holly bush outside my door which is heaving with red berries this year so I have lots of this inside.

  4. Do you gradually eat the decorations as you sally through Christmas?

I love to see Brussels sprouts in the field - they look like an alien crop!

  5. No fruit or veg as they would go off in the heat, but I made a cloved orange once and it still smells good.

  6. This really made me smile...I don't decorate with fruits and veggies, but I did my mantle in pine cones, glittered acorns, and mini white lights this year. You have to post a photo!

  7. I especially love using fruits with cloves and pinecones and cinnamon sticks! Wouldn't this make a cute "mistletoe" hanging with a big red bow! You may have to shorten it a bit though! LOL!!!

  9. Wayyyy back in the first years of my marriage, SB and I lived in an 1800 Georgian Colonial on the green in Rowley, MA ...SB cut me a half-circle of plywood and I decked it out with apples, oranges, a honker pineapple, bay leaves, magnolia, and pine roping. It sat atop the facade surround of the front door and wowed the passersby. I have never had so many compliments on holiday decorations ... It lasted all winter!

  10. Thanks, Susan.. I haven't thought of this idea in years. I used pineapples as a sign of Welcome. When we had company I added toothpicks with small squares of ham, cheese, olives and red cherry's and surrounded it with evergreens. It made a festive center piece for the table.

    Warm hugs,
    Pam :)

  11. I'd never have thought of using sprouts as a decoration but when you think about it they are quite beautifully formed really. I have some ornamental pink/green cabbages in my outdoor planter if they count!

  16. Over the years I have always tried to include some fresh fruits to decorate; oranges and bunches of cinnamon are usually on my table or couter; never thought of brussel sprouts; very original.
Merry Christmas to you and to your family.

  18. Hi! I love your idea of decorating with fruits and vegetables. My mother decorated a lot with oranges at this time of year, and some how apples always found their way into every room. And she never failed to add fresh twigs of evergreen, and holly berries. Pinecones found in the woods were added too. Here in Germany many people decorate with fruits, and one can even give a "bouquet" to a loved one made of vegies. They are quite popular of late.
Stopped by to say hello, and to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!! I hope you are feeling the magic. ~Debby

  20. I don't because they usually end up rotting and I'm not very good and catching that before they drool all over my furniture. :D What lovely brussel sprouts, though! More pics of the mantel??
