Perhaps there are some who believe it is silly to bestow human characteristics and emotions upon an animal. I say they must never have known the love of a dog. Anyone who has had the honor of owning a dog knows what it feels like to open the backdoor, step into the kitchen and be greeted by their most loyal of friends. The happiness they display for us after our long day of work is exactly the same happiness they show when we leave the room for a minute to do a load of laundry.
A dog loves you unconditionally with much affection and without exception. I once read somewhere that dogs have all the virtues of a human without any of the vices. When was the last time you heard anyone say they were betrayed by their dog or that their dog was scheming up a plan to have them fired.
Dogs are faithful, intelligent, dependable and in my Bella's case, generous and kind. She instinctively knows who needs her attention the most and at the time that they need her the most. She shares herself with five people who all want and need different things from her. She performs her duties effortlessly, with enthusiasm and boundless energy.
For me she is my constant companion. My most loyal, ever dependable friend.
The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with
him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of
himself too.
My I be envious? I miss having a dog so much. Your written word is as beautiful as your photos.
ReplyDeleteThey don't say that "A dog is a man's best friend" for nothing. Your Bella is no doubt very special.

I so totally agree with this whole post. I have always had a dog. My whole life. My earliest memories was my Mom's dog Chick who watched over me like a very protective friend. This is beautifully written and your dog is beautiful. I would be lost to ever try and live life without a dog.
ReplyDeleteYep, totally in your corner with this one. :)
I have always had more than one dog, each and everyone of them special in their own way. Big dogs, little dogs, purebred and mutts (they call them designer dogs nowadays, lol) and a lot of Border Collies.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful and no doubt a wonderful companion:@)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this. I have four dogs at the moment and cannot imagine life without them.
ReplyDeleteThat is all so true. Wouldn't it be nice if all our relationships were that special!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful! I so agree. I am always suspicious of those who do not know the love of an animal. Have a great week. Bonnie
ReplyDeleteShe's a good girl! I know she loves her mamma! I love seeing my little guy in my back window or sometimes sitting pretty on the rug at the back door when he hears the key in the door when I come home from work!
ReplyDeleteBella is beautiful. I'm a bit biased, but I think people who love dogs are the best people! cheers Wendy
ReplyDeleteBella is adorable. I am in complete agreement with you. We have two little shih tzus and they are like our children. Our human children are all married with children of their own so we can just dote on the pups all we want. The truth is, our dogs have taught us the meaning of unconditional love. It's true, I can be gone all day or even longer - and - I can be gone outside for a bit, either way, I get the same greeting when I come in the house. They just love me way more than I have ever deserved. Your Bella is blessed to have you because you obviously love her very much. Thanks for this great post.
ReplyDeleteGreat post very well written.

She is gorgeous.I have never owned a dog but love my cat as a child! She is our baby since the kids grew up. Animals love you unconditionally and they are true companions.
ReplyDeleteMy pooch Muffin is lounging across my lap and draped over one arm, which is making typing this comment extremely difficult. It's a good job she's a mini shih tzu and not a Newfoundland!
ReplyDeleteWe adore her and she adores us. It's that simple.
I really don't know how we'll manage when the time comes for us to say goodbye...but for now we'll just make the most of each day together...making wonderful memories ^..^ x
Oh Bella is gorgeous-those eyes cannot fail to melt your heart!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post. Our life would be very empty without our 2 dogs. They bring lots of happiness, love and laughter to our whole family. Lulu still cons us into a game of chasey by stealing our socks in the morning - you'd think after 2 years we would of learnt not to chase - but we love it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more, but I am biased as my Inca could be Bella's twin. She has enriched our lives so much in the last four years, and has helped to replace our grown-up children as they flew the nest.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend our human children were all home, and Inca was beside herself with joy. She loves it best when the whole pack are together.

I totally agree!
ReplyDeleteCheers
My sentiments exactly! I'm not ashamed to say I'm infatuated with my Bubbles!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better. They are wonderful and we are so lucky that they are a part of our lives.
ReplyDeleteOh, you are so right. I am the luckiest person in the world that my doggie picked me. He is the best (also a lab) ever and I would do anything for him!
ReplyDeleteVery well said, I feel the same way about my dog Dudley. Visit my link if you like to read what I've said about him.

Have you ever read Billy Collins' poem called Dharma, it's about a dog. You can find Dharma in his book titled Sailing Alone Around the Room, pg 137. Wonderful poem, it certainly captures the essence of dogs. You can also find Dharma at

Your Bella was given the perfect name! She is indeed what the English translation suggests... beautiful. Inside and out, for that matter. I just lost my best friend, my confidant, my loyal companion Meadow who I think of more as an extension of me and whose passing has left me paralyzed with heartbreak. Great tribute to Bella and all dogs!
ReplyDeleteI have had a puppy now for 3 months, and when I come home her whole body wags. She is always so glad to see me. She's been alot of work, but I know in the long run I have a faithful companion who will love me unconditionally! I loved your post!
ReplyDeleteBella is Beautiful ♥
ReplyDeleteWonderful post - couldn't agree more!
Just found your blog this afternoon & I look forward to stopping by again.
Deb
I completely agree. And because of that we now have three. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Your Bella is beautiful. What a sweet face :)
ReplyDeleteBella sounds and looks like a wonderful dog! I agree--there is nothing quite like the affection and loyalty of a pet. They are so unconditionally trusting and loving.
ReplyDeleteI loved the post about the maple bundt cake you made and the very enticing natural air freshener blog post. Nice to catch up with you this afternoon!
You are so right! Do not know what I would do without my two.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! I love your best friend. He is so lucky to have someone like you that knows how awesome he is.
ReplyDeleteThis made me miss my friend Dotty Forrest who I lost last year.
Your right a dog is our best friend.
Love
Maggie
I couldn't agree with you more! A dog gives us unconditional love, and I couldn't imagine life without one.
ReplyDeleteGive Bella a big hug from me...she's gorgeous! :0)
Animals are the best! Their love is special and pure. I will always have animals in my life. I do not know what I would do without my pets.
ReplyDeleteBella is adorable and lucky to live with you!
Love, love dogs!! And they love back so beautifully. Miss our Bichon who left us 1 1/2 years ago. We have have another dog soon...when we are done traveling. Susan
