Tzatziki Dip

Lots of fresh vegetables are on the menu at my house lately.  They fill you up, are a nutritious and healthy snack and relatively inexpensive to buy.  ( Plus I've joined  Weight  Watchers. )  So this afternoon while the New England Patriots are beating the Jets I will dipping these beautiful vegetables in a tangy low fat tzatziki.

The tzatziki I made this morning is with fat free Greek yogurt.  You could use full fat yogurt and it would probably be a tad tastier.  This tzatziki  is delicious on lamb burgers too.  The only change I make when I use it on the lamb burgers is the addition of chopped mint. Here's the recipe.

  • 2 cups plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 cup dill weed chopped fine
  • 1 large English cucumber peeled, seeded and grated
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
Strain the yogurt in a sieve lined with paper towels for at least 3 hours.  Squeeze the excess liquid from the grated cucumbers.  Add the cucumbers and remaining ingredients to the yogurt.  Chill for 2 hours and serve.

  1. It looks so yummy, I am going to try that, I just bought Greek yogurt at the store today. Any idea on the points? Do you just love that fruit and veggies are free? I eat a whole lot more than I did before just because it is so fun to pick up an apple and think to myself, 2 points, correct myself to say it is free. :)I bought 10 bell peppers today just because all of a sudden I like vegetables again. I started my third week. :)

  11. Your photograph is just perfect! Love the color, offset of the gorgeous bowl ... light. The yogurt dip is similar to a dip I just found that has the mint, but also minced tomato. It was an add-on to a recipe for lamb meatballs... your veg is definitely healthier! :)

  29. The Commander used to eat tzatziki all the time when he would deploy to Athens, Greece. When he would come back home to Spain he would smell like garlic for days!

We have been trying to get a recipe for this for years, we are going to try this.

  30. love tzatziki! I know it's not really authentic, but i add a bit of grated radish too, adds a bit of pepperiness!
