Meet Lillian......Lily for short.

Do you remember my post about possibly getting Bella a friend?  Well, our daughter called and asked us if we would take care of Lily until May.  It seems a case of severe cat allergies from my daughter's roommate has brought Lily to our doorstep.  Bella is not pleased with the arrival of this new cat in her home.  This stealth cat has attacked Bella twice from hiding places in our home that I never even knew existed.  Lily also sits and stares at Bella for long periods of time, which makes my poor girl very uncomfortable. While Bella is relaxing on my bed, Lily will sit in the doorway just staring at her. I think the cat is doing this on purpose. There has to be some type of telepathic message this cat is transmitting to the dog.  While the cat is engaged in her intimidation tactics,  Bella immediately stares straight up at the ceiling.  So strange......I'll keep you posted.

  1. If they enjoy treats, I would bring them closer by sitting on the floor and offering them each a treat using both your hands to keep them slightly apart. Also, playtime with a feather on a rope might make them relax a bit when they are in each other's presence. There is an herbal remedy called Rescue Remedy that all pet stores and health food stores carry and it is a mixture of many of the calming herbs. It is recommended by vets to use this on the cats to help calm them. I believe you apply a few drops to the tip of their nose or in their mouths. You can also add it to their drinking water. She is a beautiful cat.

    1. Lily is very sweet and gentle to us and loves to be on our laps. Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice. Next time I go to the pet store I'll make sure to buy Rescue Remedy.

  3. They will get use to each other. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats. As each one came into the house We had to start over with the stares and hidden attacks. Mainly the cats attacking the dogs. Now we are one big happy family.

  6. Lovely girl, exasperating cat being cat behavior ... so frustrating to forthright dogs ... watching pecking order being established is such a confounding experience isn't it? Good luck! All will be well.

  8. She is pretty but poor Bella, I think intimidation is the word. I have a cat who does that to Sasha. Even boxes Sasha's ears when Sasha is minding her own business.
I hope Bella gets fed up and puts that cat in her place. I have watched that telegraphic stuff go on all of the time. I know that there is real conversations going on that I can't hear but by the way they act I know some bad language is being shared, by the cats always. I have a cat who I know if I could hear swears like a sailor. :) She is a very pretty cat. I bet Bella will tell you she wasn't that lonely. :)

  10. The best way to integrate a new cat is not to force contact with the other animals. Take some old socks or a piece of rag. For each cat wipe the cloth gently around their face. This is where the the scent glands are that cats use to communicate to each other (the reason cats bumps noses with each other is to get info. about the other cat). Then let each cat have the other cats scented sock. This allows them to know the new cat/resident cat without all the stress of a physical encounter. Lilly should have access to a room or hiding place where she can hide until and then gradually get familiar with her new room mates. The smell on a sock exchange has always worked for me. It will not totally eliminate hissing or an occasional wack, but it does take a lot of the stress/fight out of the picture. Hope this is of some help. Lilly is a cutie.

  11. I also have severe cat allergies, and so I generally do not gravitate toward cats, but let me tell you, that is the most mesmerizing photo of a cat Ive ever seen. I think you could sell that, Susan, seriously!

  14. Don't you just wish that our pets had those speech bubbles like in the cartoons, so that we could see what they were thinking....because Lily looks like she's hatching a plan!
She's stunning but obviously one to watch...and no doubt Bella will. ^..^

  19. Oh what a shame, I hope they manage to sort it out. Cats don't like their territory to be taken over do they? Xxx

  21. Well she sure is pretty. That's how they get you with their cuteness. Looks like Lily is an alpha cat and wants to be the boss. Maybe you can separate them?
