Waiting Game......

Just last weekend I was out and about enjoying the historic working Grist Mill in Sudbury MA. The skies were clear and blue and the temperatures were in the low 70's. There wasn't a hint in the air of what was going to be bearing down on the Northeast Region in only a week.
We have been preparing for a hurricane that is looming towards us here in the Northeast.  A monster storm that is more than a 1000 miles wide.  We will most likely have major power outages. There is not much to do other than sit and wait.  I will be bringing in lots of wood from the wood pile while it is still dry and safe to do so.  We have a line of pine trees that border our back hill and huge oaks that surround our house on three sides.  We are hoping all the trees stay in the ground where they belong.
Good luck to all the people in New Jersey and New York who will be taking a direct hit from Hurricane Sandy.

  14. Wonderful photo ! We here in Southwestern Ontario Canada are also being affected by this storm Sandy as it has been raining since Friday and the province is under flood warnings as it is to be raining all week. If this rain was snow we would be buried and digging out for days ! Pray this storm dies out soon and doesn't do any more damage ! Have a good day and stay safe !

  17. We are waiting here in Western Massachusetts, too, to see what is going to happen. I took several decorations from the front porch inside the house. Not taking any chances of my scarecrow kids flying away. ha!

We have huge trees around us, and a gigantic evergreen hovering near the house. If any of the got uprooted and landed on our house it would be most disastrous. Must place all our trust in the Lord.

Good luck where you are! Take care. Susan

  23. That picture is so beautiful.. thank for sharing it!
Those of us that do not live on the coast, are praying for all of you that do!!!

  24. Sending prayers from the west coast. Sounds like you are as prepared as you can be. Do you have a generator? We live in the mountainous area in WA state and have been through many storms that leave us with downed power lines for 3 or 4 days. After going through that several times we broke down and finally bought a generator. Nothing worse that no light or heat when the weather is in the 30's.

Best of luck and I hope this blows by quickly for you all with little or no damage.

  26. Susan, I hope you and your trees endure Miss Sandy- unscathed.
Most of my family still lives by the Jersey shore.. some had flooding and all had power outages. We bought a generator years ago.
    Blessings,

  27. We didn't lose the electricity at all. Lots of wind and trees down and rain. It was very scary but nothing compared to NY and NJ. I hope you fared as well where you live.

  28. Hi Susan, I hope you have weathered Hurricane Sandy unscathed. I do hope your trees survived with minimal damage, if any at all. Last Halloween snow, this year balmy temperatures. Go figure....Happy Halloween, Julie.

  30. Hi,

Just found you via An Urban Cottage. First thing I saw was the Grist Mill! Moved from Sudbury 8 years ago after 23 years there and it is still in my heart.

    Will visit you often.

  33. I hope you did not lose power from the hurricane!

I have been voluteering at a temporary shelter in Brooklyn the past few days for people that lost their homes due to Sandy. It is wonderful to see how many people are helping and donating goods that are needed!
