Please, Why Not, How Come, It's Not Fair.....

What's wrong with me.  Haven't I learned anything these past twenty five years.  I should be absolutely brilliant at begging and pleading.  I could be the CEO of all begdom.  After all, I've had years of experience listening to my kids beg and plead for one thing or another.  The tool shed is out friends.   Sadly, the tool shed will not become my sweet little hen house.

"Come on" I was told. " Where would we put the lawn fertilizer, beach chairs, umbrellas and flower pots"?  Oh,  I know where to put them alright.  Believe me when I tell you I know exactly where they could go, but because I like to keep things civilized and polite I will keep that location to myself.

So I will proceed to plan two .  A lovely little coop I fell in love with on this wonderful blog The Bok Flock.  The coop is really quite charming and size wise just perfect for my small yard.  Until the time that I have my own charming little coop complete with hens,  I will continue to  purchase my eggs from local backyard chicken keepers.

  1. Awwww, I'm sorry you can't do the transformation. That stinks "rotten eggs." Well, maybe the shed wasn't all "cracked" up to what you wanted, anyway. But you definitely sound disappointed and for that, I'm truly sorry. And that's no "yolk." Susan

  2. Oh, that's too bad. It was such a cute idea! I'm sure any other hen house will be just as adorable though. And at least the answer wasn't "no chickens!!", just no chickens in the shed. ;)

  3. Good call...like my grandma would say "never count your chickens before the coop is done.."

and I would claim that coop as YOURS - put windowboxes with flowers, a little cupola, and maybe even water and electricity...

  4. Sorry it's not working out the way you were hoping, but it will be worth the wait when you finally get to do it. We do love our chickens. We have eleven laying hens now and just bought ten more babies.

  8. There you are! I love the hilarous sense of humor that lives below the surface of your very cultivated exterior (which I have long admired, just so you know). This post has endeared you to me forever! (I would have told him where to put it in no simple terms :) I'm laughing - and now I am determined to come see your little yard for myself! I think you ought to have a henhouse. It just seems to go with you - something rustic and simple, but lovely and elegant and cultivated. Is there a petition I can sign? :D

  12. Aww, you shouldn't have caved so easily! I think that tool shed would look cute with an addition, that's what I think . . . and doesn't he have the garage and most of the basement? I think it's time for someone to thin out his stuff!

  19. I love having my hens, in the back garden. They are so easy to manage and collecting fresh eggs each morning is wonderful! I hope your Plan B works out for you :)

  20. I couldn't comment when I first saw this post because of my lap having to many people in it who wanted to "help grandma," I hope that you get a coop soon. It just broke my heart to see that you couldn't have your tool shed. I understand completely. My husband looked at my chicken coop yesterday and said, " you know that is the prettiest side of the yard, we need to move that for a gazebo.
My chickens would be out in the pasture, where there are all kinds of predators.
    Don't give up hope. :)

  21. I purchase eggs from a co-worker who raises chickens as a hobby. She just purchased a new coop too.

There is no comparison to fresh eggs. Absolutely none. They taste and look amazing.

  22. Heehee!
We turned our old swingset clubhouse into a little coop. What I don't understand is...the chicken chow costs way more than what I'd pay for eggs in a month...not to mention straw.

  24. I will join the ranks here and say that I too think you will have your coop. I remember well when my husband looked at me like I had lost a couple of screws when I said I wanted to live out in the country and have chickens and cows... :)

  25. We used to keep chickens and I agree there is nothing like having your own fresh eggs, but it is a lot more work than people realise. Why not build a little hen house!

  31. If it's any consolation, I had to wait a very long time before I was able to get my chickens. Although I'd had them several years ago, I knew this time I wanted a much better & safer set-up. The wait was worth it, and I know yours will be too! Good luck, and keep us posted! -Tammy

  32. This will not do, you need a coop sooner than later! That mixture of brown and green eggs really look nice, something to shoot for.
